PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
StarVista's Counseling Center offers support to children, youth, adults, couples, and families.
We tailor our approach to meet clients' needs and provide them with the highest quality care in a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
This unique opportunity allows you to be a part of a strong clinical team comprised of diverse clinicians who are passionate about building effective clinical skills as well as supporting the underserved individuals in our county.
A component of the work will include providing mental health services to farmworkers in Half Moon Bay who were affected by the recent shootings.
Participate fully as a staff member with the Counseling Center team, and within Sar Vista.
Collaborate with other staff in the coordination of ethically appropriate, theoretically sound, culturally informed, trauma informed and holistic interventions to address client issues and enhance client and family member strengths.
Provide outpatient mental health services and support to individual adults, adolescents, couples, families, children (age 6 and older) with mild to moderate mental health issues.
Conduct psychotherapy sessions and provide ethical and high-quality services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries and Fee-for-Service clients.
Associates will have the opportunity to build cultural, ethical, and clinical competence in providing trauma informed and strengths-based treatment of children (age 6 and older), adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups within a multicultural and multidisciplinary, outpatient community mental health setting.
Cultural humility and respect for diversity are core values of Star Vista and will be incorporated regularly into training at the Counseling Center.
Training related to timely and accurate clinical documentation will be provided.
Professionalism and collegiality will also be an aspect of training at the Star Vista Counseling Center.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide individual, group, couples and/or family therapy for clients age 6 and older.
Minor case management related duties.
Conduct intake assessments and complete full psychosocial assessments.
With supervisory support, Associates will assign DSM-5 diagnoses, when applicable.
Associates will be trained on recognizing and intervening in crisis situations (i.
e.
, suicide risk) and provided training about safety planning.
Associates will be trained on ethical/ legal considerations that may arise during client sessions (i.
e.
, CPS/ APS mandated reporting laws; HIPAA confidentiality guidelines, professional boundaries).
Associates will be provided supervision on various treatment interventions (e.
g.
, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, etc.
).
Associates will be expected to work in collaboration with other professionals (i.
e.
, schools, case workers, probation officers).
Maintain up-to-date confidential files and required documentation for client caseload.
Weekly supervision with Clinical Supervisor.
Weekly group supervision with colleagues and Clinical Supervisor KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Demonstrable and verifiable clinical skills and experience in providing therapy services.
Strong ethical principles reflected in practice, including a thorough understanding of client confidentiality requirements, appropriate clinical record keeping, and federal/state laws governing the practice of mental health services.
Understanding of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Willingness to explore self in relation to these issues, and ability to provide culturally informed therapeutic services to diverse clientele.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Skilled in maintaining positive relationships and collaborating with other systems, including parents, school, probation, CPS, and other programs.
Ability to work as a team member with staff and upper management to accomplish tasks supporting the agency's mission.
Work in a team oriented clinical environment, collaborating with Program Manager and Clinical Supervisor to provide mental health services for clients age 6 and above.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Graduate degree in Social Work, Professional Clinical Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology.
Registration with the BBS or BOP Demonstrable and verifiable skills, abilities, and qualities commensurate with specific position requirements.
